How to Keep Your Skin in Top Shape Through the Cold, Dry Winter
Winter can be harsh on most skin types specially the dry ones. The cool dry air and the hot water baths rob the skin of their moisture content. This leads to dry, dull looking skin. The heating systems in your home also contributes to dry skin. We list some skin care tips to keep your skin soft and supple all through winter months.
1.Use warm water for bathing
A hot shower can be tempting in the winter months. Hot water tends to dry your skin. Always use lukewarm water to wash your skin. Do not spend too much time inside the shower.
2.Use a proper moisturiser and moisturise regularly
The moisturiser you used in the summer month will harm your skin in winter. You will need to buy an oil based moisturiser. These moisturisers retain more moisture by creating a protective layer on your skin. It is necessary to moisturise your skin several times in a day. Moisturise your skin as soon as you step out from a shower. Moisturise before going to bed. Apply moisturiser before heading outdoors.
Use an oil which is suited to your skin type to mositurise your skin. Olive oil, almond oil and coconut oil help to retain the mositure on your skin.
3,Keep yourself hydrated
The cool climate makes us feel less thirsty. As a result we end up drinking less water. This leads to dehydration. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within. If possible drink warm water.
4.Choose your cleansers carefully
Astringents or alcohol based toners can clean out essential oils from your skin. Use cleansing milk or cleansers with mild foam. Purchase toners without alcohol content. Go slow on your exfoliating routine.
5.Follow a healthy diet
Spinach and other green vegetables are known to have high water content. Include them in your daily meals. Consume hot soups, fresh fruits and juices. Berries have plenty of vitamins and antioxidants to keep your skin healthy.
6.Bring home a humidifier
People usually spend a lot of time indoors during the winter. It is a good idea to purchase a humidifier. It keeps the air inside the home moist. This benefits your skin greatly.
7.Keep your skin protected when stepping outdoors
Wear gloves and caps in addition to warm clothes when you are heading outdoors. Use a rich sunscreen lotion. The UV rays in the winter sun is perfectly capable of damaging your skin.
